Gaza-Slim-Vybz-Kartel

The following is an excerpt from the Journal of Shuzzr. Dancehall Review pt7.

Her rise to fame was on the heels of the alleged beating of Gaza Kim by Dancehalls Devil, Vybz Kartel, and his minions. Since the alleged incident, Gaza Kim, has severed ties with the former popular crew but has failed to maintain her presence within the musical landscape. Gaza Slim, however, has risen to the forefront with a slew of hits and her association and or entanglements (legally & illegally) with Vybz Kartel, The Dancehall Devil, has only aided her in showcasing her vocal abilities to the world under the direction of the devil himself.

But since the Devil’s incarceration and sentence on multiple charges, his sycophants are left to retreat as they may share the same fate or even worst. While Gaza Slim vocal abilities are unquestionable, she seems quite optimistic amidst the chaos. Gaza Slim latest single “Mercy On Me Lord” is a testimony in its entirety. The young songstress ballad shows her vocal range, invites her audience on a journey where she tells her story and ask for forgiveness.

Venerable as she is, Gaza Slim through her gift humanizes her life and her experiences. Protection & Forgiveness is all she ask in a master not confined to earthly bars but resides in the heavens. A prayer from her lips to God ears, she not only repents but conveys that she’s a vessel which has been used and still is by Vybz Kartel, who has been labelled as the “Devil of Dancehall”.

Who am I to judge? It’s a question we all should ask ourselves. Her journey reminds me of a biblical incident. A woman, who had been caught in the act of adultery was brought to Jesus Christ by the scribes and Pharisees as a test to see if the Messiah was a liberal in matters of the Law of God. In response to their deceitful query, He didn’t condemn the woman, not because He was a liberal, not because He condoned her sin, but because the men who brought the woman to him were Hypocrites – “let he who is without sin, cast the first stone”

In closing, lets reflect on a this passage – “Blessed are they that do His Commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” (Revelation 22:14-15 KJV)
