The Dancehall & Reggae community has come to its peak in recent weeks with an excess of music that lacks creativity and quality. There has been an outcry for a form of quality control within this particular music industry for as long as we can remember. There has been a need for a quality control sector which disallows certain music that doesn’t meet the regulated standards of production from being distributed within this market.
Some say Dancehall is dead! Some say Reggae is dead! But is it really? Surf the net or any social media platforms that promote Dancehall and Reggae. I guarantee that you will find quality singles and compilations from each genre, but only after a deep search. This is the major problem. There is so much music being released with no regulatory body to govern these releases. So as a result, music that hasn’t been mixed or mastered properly is displayed on the same platforms with the bunch that is up to standards. Then ultimately resulting in the perception that Dancehall and Reggae is dead, because the quantity exists in abundance, but the quality is relatively at a minimum.
Now we should ask ourselves who is responsible for this travesty that is now our music industry. Do your research and you will end up with the name Johnny Wonder of Hapilos 21st nine out of ten times. I will bet you that this individual qualifies for your answer nine out of ten times. Who is Johnny Wonder? Well many say he is one of the worst persons they ever encountered professionally, while others say he is a money grabbing piece of s****t. Whatever the results of your survey about this individual may be , I can bet you that it lacks anything positive, nine out of ten times.
While I respect this individual for his experience and hard work he has done over the years for our music. I can’t afford to let him hide behind his merits and continue to help destroy this music industry that provided so much for so many and continues to provide regardless of its state of affairs. Now many will ask, who are you to judge Johnny Wonder? Well let’s just say I am an artist myself who was a victim of some of the worst customer service ever to be handed down to a customer. With that said I will add that Johnny Wonder has the professionalism of a teenager who sells lemonade from a street cart and I would recommend him to take a crash course in business ethics at the very minimum.
How can someone who is so unqualified be responsible for so much? How can someone so unqualified have so much power in this music industry? It’s almost as If we Jamaicans sat back and allowed our Government to run the operations of dancehall. We need to take back our music! Ask any mainstream producer in the dancehall community about Johnny Wonder. Nine out of ten of them will tell you that Mr Wonder services are equivalent to JPS of Jamaica. They can’t do without the services because there are no better options but it lacks efficiency immensely and if they had a better option they would switch in a heartbeat. Compare his services to the less popular but very diligent Zojack Worldwide or the crowd favorite Riddimstream Media and you will notice a big gap in professionalism, courtesy and delivery.
It’s just unfortunate that it’s the wolf of Dancehall Johnny Wonder that is currently top of the hierarchy. Now I gave you a quick rundown of what the wolf of dancehall lacks, which is ultimately everything. God knows Mr Wonder may have started this journey as an innocent man who had the welfare of this music industry as his priority, and perhaps along the way got corrupted by the its monetary benefits because all he seems to prioritize now is the welfare of the superstar artists while treating the younger upcoming artists like they don’t exist. Is this fair? I always thought a business’s initial aim should always be to treat all customers equally. If we look at the likes of Digicel, Flow, Verizon, Cablevision and other companies, Johnny Wonder’s company would not even qualify for an internship if these companies were hiring relative companies to work with them.
I want to assure you that this is not a hate article against this individual, as I am actually being very kind with my words when compared to the damage and corruption he has done to this industry. Who ever elected him to be Dancehall’s president? Well this is basically what he did. He organized and extracted a couple thousands of email contacts from his years of experience as the industries inside man, then started to blasts releases to these contacts, representing himself as the main distributor, and then overtime was able to develop a descent relationship with his recipients as he created the supply and demand network of music.
Nothing more, nothing less. Are you impressed?
I was for a while, until in my second year of my computer science major I learnt how to write a script that not only extracts all email contacts from the web related to dancehall, music, reggae, and videos but was also able to tell me which of these emails were active in a matter of five minutes. Get my point? If not, my point is that not only is the wolf of Dancehall old school, lacks professionalism, integrity and efficiency, there are a lot of persons who can do what he does with their eyes close, better than he does it.
